The Township of Ramara is preparing a Community Improvement Plan (CIP) to help enhance economic development opportunities and business investment, create a sense of community and attract tourism.

What is a Community Improvement Plan (CIP) ?

A Community Improvement Plan (CIP) is a planning and economic development tool prepared under Section 28 of the Planning Act. Municipalities use it to revitalize areas of a township or community through programs, grants and incentives. The main goal of a CIP is to improve the overall quality of life in a community by promoting sustainable development, enhancing public spaces, and attracting investment.

Why is a CIP beneficial to a community?

CIPs provide many community benefits, such as

  • Stimulating private sector investment in the community through grants and loans from a municipality;
  • Promoting revitalization and placemaking to attract tourism, business investment and economic development opportunities;
  • Developing affordable housing;
  • Enhancing streetscapes and building facades;
  • Encouraging the effective use of community infrastructure.

Community Improvement Plan Area

The CIP will focus on the designated settlement area of Brechin to assist with private-sector redevelopment and facilitate property improvements.

Downtown Brechin is classified as a Village, a full-service settlement with a mix of businesses of services, commercial and food. The downtown area has many residential homes and is close to Lagoon City, a prime residential community west of downtown.
